Cataloguing
Cataloguing is a very important activity because it allows you to get to know the works of your museum collection in depth. It is the first step in preserving and enhancing assets through study, research and exhibition activities.
Since 2007, the museum system has been coordinating campaigns for cataloguing the pieces of its museum collections: works of art, ethnographic assets, naturalistic finds, archaeological finds, historical-military pieces.
Real estate spread throughout the territory and intangible assets (traditions, festivals, practices, knowledge, languages, etc.) are also filed.
For cataloguing campaigns, the SIRBeC (Regional Information System for Cultural Heritage) form is used in Lombardy: the digital forms are then published on the Lombardia Cultural Heritage portal.
To date, more than 11,000 pieces have been listed in the SMV museums! Over 1,500 works of art, more than 500 historical-military pieces, more than 6,500 ethnographic assets and over 2,300 specimens of animals.
